Jackfruit: A fruit against starvation!

What is the Jackfruit?

Jackfruit is a fruit growing in the tropical forests of India and (as it is believed), spread in very early times in many areas of Asia, East India … reaching the Philippines. Jackfruit is already popular even in central and eastern Africa and in Brazil as well.

A fruit showing preference to humid and wet climates, while the tree, due to its enormous size, making its cultivation extremely difficult!

Why Jackfruit has become the center of attention?

Jackfruit is a very strange product … not only on its look, but also on its smell, taste and its benefits! Starting from its external look, we face a very strange fruit (reminding of a mutated fruit from a thriller movie), while continuing, as soon as we cut it off the tree, we find am extremely repulsive and bad smell!

However, Jackfruit is a fruit with many excellent benefits for the human being, since it is the unique fruit which could save the world of starvation !

One and only fruit, Jackfruit, weighs up to 50 kilos and contains many seeds. These seeds are rich in:

  • calcium

  • potassium

  • iron

  • proteins

A very sweet taste comes to your mouth, when you try Jackfruit (coming to a contrast with its bad smell). The fruit is rich in nutritional fiber, while offers to organism large energy amounts (this being the reason for being so beneficial against the starvation).

NOTE: Another great benefit of Jackfruit is rich to precious metals and vitamins and most significantly is free of cholesterol and saturated fats harming the health!

Every tree reaches the 30 meters in height and can bear up to 250 fruits, with each one weighing up to 50 kilos! The shape of the fruit is cyclic to oval and it can reach the 60 centimeters in length and 75 in diameter.

The fruit, during the period being still unripe, has a green colour externally and it is covered by thorns, while when it is ripe and ready for consumption takes a light brown colour and a strong fructose smell! Internally the edible bulbs are found, of a bright orange-yellow colour. Every fruit contains 50 to 500 similar bulbs, separated between each other, in the internal part of the fruit, by membranes.

NOTE: A total of 95 calories are given by just 100 grams of the fruit, consisting of a very soft and sweet flesh, rich in sugars, containing large energy amounts!
